Guardiola: Dani Olmo a top player with a bright future

Dani Olmo is a top player with a bright future who can play at the highest level of European football, according to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

Dinamo Zagreb forward Olmo has been linked with a move to City, while Roma and Milan have also been credited with an interest in his services.

Barcelona are thought to be keen on bringing Olmo back to the club, having signed him to their famed academy as a nine-year-old in 2007.

His time in the Barca youth set-up overlapped with Guardiola s glittering spell in charge of the Blaugrana, Spain international Olmo leaving for Dinamo in 2014.

Olmo was on target as he gave Dinamo the lead with a rasping close-range volley against City on Wednesday, only for the Premier League side to cruise to a 4-1 win, endi…

Battle of the Bridge, the sequel – Boehly treated to rollercoaster of emotions on welcome to Chelsea

London derbies between Chelsea and Tottenham hold special reverence in the eyes of many neutrals because it s so synonymous with controversy, drama and – arguably above all else – aggro.

If Todd Boehly never attends another match at Stamford Bridge, he ll be safe in the knowledge that this contest had more than enough drama than 99 per cent of other Chelsea games.

Chelsea s new owner was attending his first home game since the pre-season takeover, and he was treated to an absolute thriller – though he ll ultimately have been frustrated by the Blues inability to claim all three points as Spurs somehow stole a draw.

But the result, a 2-2 tie, only tells half the story of a gripping contest.

Of course, reminders of the respective situations of the club…

What next for Ceballos? Madrid midfielder wants to settle down after Arsenal stints

Dani Ceballos has made clear he does not want to be loaned out again by Real Madrid, despite learning plenty during his two seasons with Arsenal.

Midfielder Ceballos won the FA Cup at the end of the 2019-20 campaign under Mikel Arteta, his first on loan at the Gunners. He returned to Emirates Stadium again, agreeing to another season-long stint in England.

However, having played 77 games for Arsenal, the Spain international now wants his long-term future resolved one way or another, revealing he wants to feel important at a club.

He is under contract for two more years at the Santiago Bernabeu, having joined Madrid from LaLiga rivals Real Betis in July 2017.

It is true that I have a contract with Real Madrid for the next two years and I would not like…

Pirlo´s Juventus appointment surprises Zola

Gianfranco Zola said he is surprised by Juventus decision to appoint first-time head coach Andrea Pirlo following Maurizio Sarri s dismissal.

Pirlo, 41, was sensationally appointed Juve coach on Saturday after the Serie A winners sacked Sarri following their Champions League last-16 exit at the hands of Lyon.

Former Juve midfielder Pirlo, who was only recently named the Under-23s boss in Turin, will surprisingly have his first taste of senior coaching with the Bianconeri.

Zola worked as an assistant to Sarri at Chelsea in 2018-19 and he told Sky Sport Italia: I d be lying if I said I wasn t surprised by this.

It s fascinating and if the project works, it ll go down as a huge success story for the club. It s not an easy job, though, as Juventus are asking…

Danilo sad as ´long-ball´ United snatch derby victory

Danilo was saddened by Manchester City s dramatic defeat to Manchester United on Saturday and accused Jose Mourinho s side of snatching victory through long balls .

City went into the clash at the Etihad Stadium knowing a win would see them crowned Premier League champions, but they went down 3-2 in a first home defeat of the season in all competitions.

Pep Guardiola s side held a 2-0 half-time lead through Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan and should have scored more to cap a fine first 45 minutes, with Raheem Sterling missing two clear openings.

But United sprung a stunning comeback, with Paul Pogba scoring twice before Chris Smalling volleyed home the winner to delay City s title party.

Danilo was a frustrated man after the final whistle but told his…

Gakpo open to Man United switch

Cody Gakpo would be willing to leave PSV Eindhoven and join Manchester United before the summer transfer window closes, according to Fabrizio Romano, but the 20-time English champions must act quickly and submit a bid in the next few days if they intend to make the transfer happen.

As things stand at the moment, United appear to be focused on Antony of Ajax as their preferred target when it comes to strengthening their wide attacking ranks. Their pursuit of the Brazil international, however, hasn t been going too well with Ajax extremely reluctant to sell, even though the 22-year-old is believed to be doing his best to force a move away from Amsterdam.

Nonetheless, it seems Gakpo will only be considered if United s interest in Antony ceases.

Lewandowski lands UEFA award: What made his season so special?

Robert Lewandowski was the logical choice to win UEFA s Men s Player of the Year award to give it to anyone else would have been a brave call.

How could a player who scored 55 goals in the 2019-20 season, including 15 in the Champions League, possibly be denied.

Fellow nominees Manuel Neuer and Kevin De Bruyne were also terrific last term, but this was a one-horse race.

UEFA duly got it right, rewarding Bayern Munich s Polish goal machine with a shiny trophy to sit alongside the medals he is stacking up at home.

THE BEST IN EUROPE!

Charlton thrash Reading to maintain unbeaten league run

Charlton extended their unbeaten run in Sky Bet League One to seven matches as they thrashed Reading 4-0 to ensure their horrendous away form continued.

The Royals have not collected a single point on their travels this season and last won on the road in the league nearly a calendar year ago – November 12, 2022.

Charlton sparked into life after a low-quality first half and scored three goals in the space of 20 minutes – with a hat-trick of assists from Corey Blackett-Taylor.

Chuks Aneke was left with a simple close-range header from the winger’s cross in the 54th minute.

Aneke was forced off shortly afterwards with a hamstring injury but it did not prevent the Addicks from opening the floodgates.

Haaland hails ´amazing´ Manchester derby after firing third consecutive hat-trick for Man City

Manchester City talisman Erling Haaland described his derby hat-trick as amazing , while Phil Foden referred to his own treble as a dream come true after the pair dominated against Manchester United.

A contest that saw nine goals was never in doubt as Foden and Haaland scored three each in a 6-3 victory for City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

A strike from Antony and an Anthony Martial brace gave United some consolation in the second half, but it was a dominant win for Pep Guardiola s men.

Foden s second goal of the day was his 50th in all competitions for City, making him the youngest player to reach that figure under Guardiola at the age of 22 years and 127 days, surpassing Lionel Messi (22y 164d).

Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, Foden hailed th…
